Description
(Monkees) Michael Nesmith: The Prison/A Book With A Soundtrack (Pacific Arts PAC 11-101A) MINT 1974 concept album (first released in '77) with pristine HUGE booklet insert. Very rare museum piece for the serious Monkee collector who thinks he has it all.
Absolutely amazing small label local release that has a Neil Young vibe throughout. If you are unfamiliar with this body of work, it's musically quite awesome and actually sounds MORE like our "Mr Soul" than Maestro Young's own oeuvre from that early '70s time period. Very obscure minuscule pressing/printing and many collectors don't know about this unique artifact ... so don't miss out!

The Prison - A Book With A Soundtrack (or simply The Prison) is Michael Nesmith's seventh solo album of his post-Monkees career and his first to be released under his own record label, Pacific Arts. It includes a novella meant to be read while listening to the album as its "soundtrack". In 1994 Nesmith recorded a companion novella/album entitled The Garden. According to Nesmith's website (Videoranch), a third installment is in development; however, no date has been listed for the release[1]
Critical reception Allmusic called The Prison "a brilliant multimedia concept marrying the personal and inner visual experience of Michael "Papa Nez" Nesmith's novella with the aural medium of an equally original soundtrack." Robert Christgau called it a "ghastly boxed audio-allegory-with-book."[2]
