Monkees-Related 45 Fountain of Youth Living Too Fast Colgems
I can’t test-play vinyl at the minute, so with that said…
If The Beatles had The Dave Clark Five as a sound-alike band, then The Monkees had Fountain of Youth, who also recorded for the Colgems label. These guys are actually a very good lost timepiece to the field of 1960’s pop.
The lead singer sounds like Davy Jones’ more aggressive singing style (think the ending of “Valleri”) to the same degree that Dave Clark could get a close approximation of John’s voice.
Fountain of Youth also had some of the same songwriters employed by The Monkees. In this example, the B-side (which I prefer to the A-side, however; both sides are great songs!) was co-written by Diane Hilderbrand, who had written “Early Morning Blues and Greens” for the “Headquarters” LP, as well as co-writing their B-side, “Goin’ Down,” to name a couple tunes.
Fountain of Youth also covered The Monkees’ “Take a Giant Step,” a slower rendition that is equally good in a different direction.
This band never got off the ground. After a handful of 45’s, they disappeared after barely materializing, and yet, their records are barely known-about pop nuggets. Head over to YouTube, and check these two tunes out. And if you like what you hear, do yourself a bonus, and listen to “Don’t Blame Me (for Trying).”

Sleeve: Original company Colgems sleeve is present and in VG+ condition. Wrinkles at the top edge, but NO SPLITS.
A generic white sleeve will be provided to protect your company sleeve during shipping.
Vinyl: EX/NM. Has a barely perceptible scuff on the plug side, to the right of “Plug Side.” See photos. Side 2 is NM unplayed-looking.
Labels: NM/ NM. Full gloss, NO damage. Brand new-looking.
