Moody Bible Sacred Harp Singers … Paramount 3152, 78 rpm, 1929, V+. Liberty / In That Morning.
There are perhaps 5 known copies of Paramount 3152. The record is in strong V+ condition and both sides play remarkably well for a Paramount. The description on the label, and in Tony Russell’s “Country Music Records, A Discography, 1921-1942” mention violin, guitar and organ accompaniment. But in fact, both selections here are sung by four male voices, unaccompanied by any musical instruments, in the traditional Sacred Harp manner. Phil Reeve and Ernest Moody (see third photo) of The Georgia Yellow Hammers (an old-time fiddle & banjo band) are two of the quartet members, the others being R. E. Worsham and C. C. Harper. They are singing two hymns from the seven-note-shapes Christian Harmony book. In 47 years of collecting I’ve only seen this disc available for purchase three times.
