An original and genuine mono 1st press of FUTURE on UK DSS. Matrix 2/2. Stampers 1B/1B - the 1st stamper employed by Decca. And some folk might say...ok so why the fuss?. Well, there's a few reasons to make a fuss about this record - let me elucidate. When the DSS label came into fruition it was alongside the whole push for the stereo format. THIS title was one of the main titles to go along with the new launch. It was all about technicolour, psyche,and stereo was the new super format. Essentially ALL the marketing was round the Stereo release and poor old mono was very much on the back-burner. Consequently Mono 1st pressing of this record is unusually hard to find. But just to up the ante this copy is from the VERY 1st stamper employed. So, you could never go earlier. And you could never get closer to those pristine masters. And this all adds into what is a genuinely very rare record [I don't often say that!]. If you would like further evidence of how early this copy is - take a good look at the publishing credits. They are completely wrong. i.e. all to Essex! Just take a look at later copies to see how many tracks they got wrong! Also, notice on the label the deep groove only found on first pressing. It comes housed in a 1st issue mono pinched spine cover. And even the original Decca inner adds authenticity as it is date to the month of release November 1967. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex-) In lovely condition having seen only light use. Surfaces retain a lot of the original lustre and there's just a couple of slight marks per side - nothing troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback with a couple of deviations per side. So the mono 1st copies are sought after for rarity...yes, yes, that is quite apparent. But what's the other reason? Because they sound bloody fantastic as well. I have heard the occasional mono copy - but this copy is by far and away the best I've ever witnessed. In fact, it's a bit like hearing a classic title again for the first time. Aha...this is REALLY what this album sounds like/can sound like. I have never hear a genuine copy deliver this title cleanly. Part classical part spoken word - believe me when I say anything approaching Ex is an incredibly hard find. Not perfectly clean. I detect four ticks early on side 1 just before the strings come in. And a couple more later on the same side. A couple of slight ticks early on side 2 and a solitary click midway through. So, it is not perfect. BUT it is pretty DARN good - consistently. You can even hear the triangle strikes perfectly clearly. And I doubt very much I will ever have the benefit of listening to a 1B like this again...so it is definitely worthy of serious consideration. Note one label has some foxing spots on it.
Cover (Vg) Nowhere near as good as the vinyl - but it is still genuine and authentic. The front looks pretty tidy. It's the rear where we can see the ageing process. A bit grubby and a bit aged in places. Not bad - but certainly not tidy. Inscription top right. I quite like it as it is very much in correlation with the subject matter on the LP! Spine 80% intact - couple of stress creases. Overall perfectly reasonable for a genuine rarity. 
Inner (Vg) Light ageing. No splits. Bag missing.
