Columbia Records catalog # KC 30897, stereo, copyright 1971.
A very clean copy of Moondog's "Moondog II" LP. The material on this record consists entirely of rounds, which he refers to as madrigals. There are 26 of them, all under 3 minutes each. I won't list all the titles here, but some of the more imaginative titles include: "Why Spend a Dark Night With Me"; "Coffee Beans"; "Down is Up"; "Be a Hobo"; and "No, the Wheel Was Never Invented". Included with the LP is a booklet which contains music and lyrics for each round.
In the extensive liner notes Moondog indicates that all vocals are performed by his daughter and him, overdubbed to create a choir effect. Instruments included are: guitar, piano, pipe organ, virginal, harpsichord, recorder, and viola da gamba.
This is an interesting and enjoyable LP. Of the music, Moondog is quoted as saying,"Though these pieces are all rounds, I call them "madrigals", which range far afield in subject matter, compared to the early madrigals which deal mainly with love. Rounds are great fun to write, perform, and listen to. The listener receives a one fold saisfaction, the performer a two-fold, while the writer who performs his own rounds receives a three-fold satisfaction."
Vinyl is in NM condition. Play surfaces are very clean and free of marks. Gatefold sleeve is VG, with no writing, but fairly pronounced ringwear front and rear, and a partially split top seam. The booklet is VG+, generally very clean, but several of the rounds are marked with a star (in pencil), no doubt indication favorites.
