This is the second box set of vintage birdsong recordings made in England by the recording pioneer Ludwig Koch in 1937 and released as three Parlophone 78rpm discs with a book by E M Nicholson. Here is an article on Ludwig Koch and how this box set came about:

The book in the set, by ran to four impressions and this is the fourth, 1949 impression. Unusually this copy is complete, with the book and the three 78rpm 10" discs. Even more unusual, the set is actually new. The book has not been read, the records have never been played. The box itself is in fair condition considering it has been stored for 66 years (see pictures). The corrugated packaging around the discs has had the brown sticky tape joiners cut at some time to visually inspect the records. I bought this set from an old established London book shop around 1973. It had been in their stock since 1949 and had been rediscovered in a upstairs storeroom when they were moving premises. Then I paid £6 for it, when my weekly wage was about £20.
