This lovely LP from Decca (DL 710038, US pressing, gold radial label, stereo) features the artistocratic Erica Morini in a superb pairing of the Franck Violin Sonata in A major with Mozart’s Violin Sonata in E flat major K.481, beautifully partnered by the estimable Rudolf Firkusny. Both performances were recorded in New York in February 1961. 

How so much more richly rewarding to have performances in which the pianist is every bit equal to the imagination and technical command of the violinist.  Nor in terms of recording is the violinist overly spotlit; in fact, the Decca balance is quite nearly ideal, as are these artists’ readings of two masterworks of the chamber repertoire. 

There are fine liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Bruce F. Hart, printed in English only. The memorable cover photo of Morini and Firkusny is uncredited, alas.

CONDITION:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD. The only real flaw concerns a punch-hole to the upper-left corner. There is also minor bumping at corners and mild discoloration. However, there are no seamsplits, bends, or owners' markings, and the whole remains solid, bright, and attracitive – overall, a very good collector's copy.

The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Although the surfaces are not absolutely silent, really this is a fine copy and playback is superb, close to NM. Those requiring a flawless or near-MINT copy are advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this is an excellent collector's copy.
