This truly beautiful and very rare LP from Decca (DL 10094, US pressing, gold label, mono, original inner sleeve included) features a sublime recital by legendary violinist Erica Morini and the great pianist Rudolf Firkusny in Violin Sonatas by Mozart and Beethoven, recorded in New York City in March 1963.

The exact contents are as follows:

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Violin Sonata No. 17 in C Major K. 296

Ludwig van Beethoven: Violin Sonata No. 3 in E-flat Major Op. 12 No. 3

How refreshing to hear two soloists so wonderfully matched, each inspiring the other to even greater heights of imagination and expression. To hear Firkusny’s pianism is surely as equal a job as Morini’s fiddling. This is exalted playing by any measure and all those who treasure the art of the violin (and piano!) will find much to savor here. The sound is absolutely first rate.

There are erudite and eloquent liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by the eminent critic Louis Biancolli, provided in English only. The lovely cover photo is uncredited.

CONDITION – PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is EXCELLENT. Although there is a discreet hole-punch to the lower-left corner and a minor bend to the lower-right corner, really the jacket is in very fine shape and I have no hesitation in grading it as EX. There are no seamsplits, owners’ markings, or other defects, and the album remains solid, bright, glossy, and highly attractive – overall, an excellent collector's copy.

The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT. Although surfaces are not absolutely silent (and thus I have rated it NM vs. MINT) this is a fine copy and playback is superb. If you must have perfect surfaces, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, this rates as a NM collector's copy.

This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
