Description
The experience of buying records on Ebay is ruined if, when they arrive, you discover that they are either not in the condition stated or have been damaged in the post! For this reason I describe all my items in detail, and only post using strong sturdy packaging. They are also from a non-smoking and pet-free home.
I accept returns and offer a full refund if you are not happy with your purchase.
Morrissey - 'Piccadilly Palare' White Label Test Press 7" - 1990
Catalogue No. POP1624 - HMV Records
Test pressings of Morrissey singles are, of course, very scarce. This 7" test pressing for the 'Piccadilly Palare' single would very likely not have been used for promotional purposes, since a custom-designed 7" exists for this release, and there cannot therefore be many of these pressings in existence at all. I described the record as a 'white label' 7" in the auction title, but the labels actually have a very faint green-blue tint which is slightly too subtle to be picked up in the scanned photos. The A-side label has the catalogue number hand-written on it, as well as a date stamp which is hard to discern but looks to be '8th August 1990' given that the single was released on the 1st October of that year. Interestingly, the matrix numbers for the A- and B-sides are respectively 'A-1U-1-1' and 'B-1U-1-1' which indicate the very first pressing and differ from any instance of the standard release which I have seen; the latter typically carrying A- and B- matrix numbers of 'A-4-1-...' and 'B-3U-1-...' which suggest that several revisions or intermediate pressings took place. Perhaps even more interesting is that the standard 7" has the etching "GEORGE ELIOT KNEW" on the run-out region of the A-side, whereas this test pressing has instead the etching "FAME MONEY LAWSUITS" on the run-out of the A-side. This is a slogan which Morrissey has used elsewhere, as can be seen in the photo on p.114 of Linder Sterling's book 'Morrissey Shot', for example, in which he is holding up a placard bearing these words. This was clearly the run-out message which was intended for this single before, for some reason, it was later changed. This original etching or its subsequent change was not documented in 'Peepholism' or anywhere else that I have seen. The record comes in a black die-cut paper sleeve which appears very likely to be the original sleeve. This is a genuinely rare record and I have been very careful to describe its nature. I should add that if a buyer wins the auction and finds that it is not as I have described, I will be happy to provide a full refund. The vinyl and labels are conservatively graded as excellent, with no unintended marks on the labels and just some light surface marks on the vinyl in a couple of places. The record appears to have been played very little judging by the labels and the bright glossy appearance of the vinyl. Please see the accompanying photos for more detail; note that the 'Ebay ID' lettering is just on the pictures and not on the item itself.
All my auctions start at 1P and have NO RESERVE. They are all 100% genuine, original versions. Some are in mint/new condition and some are used; all will go to the highest bidder. I offer a money-back guarantee if anything is described incorrectly. Postage and Packing is 1.60 in the UK for untracked and uninsured standard postage, this is subsidised by myself and the actual costs to me will usually be higher. Please do consider paying the extra 70p for tracked postage since there is nothing that can be done to find out what happened if the parcel is lost when standard postage is chosen. Shipping costs are greater for overseas buyers, but still subsidised and very good value; please check prices by using the options above or feel free to ask. Extra items are sent at no extra postage charge to the buyer (see below). I always take great care to package items well with strong mailing materials.See my other auctions for related rare items here. If multiple auctions are won at the same time (within a week), I will charge only the postage cost for the heaviest item and pay the remaining postage myself. This is the case wherever you live.
