Limited Edition 5-LP boxed set: The Compete Blue Note / UA / Roulette Recordings of Thad Jones: Mosaic MQ5-172 [Limited Edition #0664/7500 / pressed on heavy, audiophile grade vinyl / USA]. (Condition: records are near mint; box is near mint w/ no splits; the invaluable booklet is in excellent shape w/ no tears, ceases or extraneous writing.) ||| The trumpet playing composer/arranger of the famous Jones Brothers (that would be Hank, Eddie, & Elvin). Although he was successful and fairly well known in the fifties, for reasons that are hard to fathom Thad never seemed to be generally put in the same category as Morgan, Dorham or even Art Farmer by critics and jazz fans. He was certainly busy and respected among musicians, not only for his fine trumpet work, but probably more so for his composing and arranging prowess. (Much in evidence in these recordings.) It wasn’t until his later "Thad Jones – Mel Lewis Big Band" activities that much of the public began to sing his praises. This set of combo dates offer a nice span of years (1956-1960) to experience his ever changing attitude and superb jazz awareness unfolding. Featuring many fine musicians like Kenny Burrell, Tommy Flanagan, Oscar Pettiford, Billy Mitchell, Barry Harris, Percy Heath, Max Roach, Gigi Gryce, Elvin Jones, Al Grey, Paul Chambers and several others. /\ Original sessions were released as Detroit – New York Junction; The Magnificent Thad Jones; The Magnificent Thad Jones, Vol. Three; Motor City Scene; Minor Strain. Plus tracks from a couple of compilation albums of previously unreleased material on Roulette and Blue Note The Other Side of 1500 Series and The Birdland Story. ||| Hats Off! To Mosaic for another insightful, multi-label set. || [RE: Zee] || Notes on mailing and mailing charges are in the following paragraphs. ||

I put up several new items each week of mostly pre-recorded music, often jazz-related.**** NOTE: for further info on my grading practices go to berigansjazz/ebay.com [ *** Notice to NEW Customers: please read the notes at the end of this section.] THANKS & GOOD LUCK! BT /\
Notes on mailing: I can send this item to anywhere in the U.S. via Media Mail (w/ Delivery confirmation) for $5.50. /\ U.S. Priority Mail is now Zone Rated, meaning that distance is considered in rates. eBay provides a line in the auction-end ‘user form’ for the winner’s Zip Code (or mailing Country). Be sure to provide your Zip Code (or Country) in this line in order to save time in communications. /\ Both U.S. Priority charges and International Rates will be quoted after I get the package’s country of destination. Please keep in mind that the package will weigh approximately 4 Lbs. So for International bidders, this package may have to be sent via the more expensive Parcel Post rate. Before bidding you should email me for a mailing/handling quote. Thanks, Berigan
*** NOTICE ON MAILING: I feel that my eBay rating & feedback assures buyers that I am a responsible seller (& buyer). One who follows through on deals and that goes out of his way to be fair in the rare case of dispute. Yet to buyers new to my operation, here goes:1.) I only use USPS.
2.) I guarantee that packages will be correctly addressed and safely packed. (That’s why I ask buyers to respond via email with their mailing address. I cut it out and tape it to the address label.)
3.) I will take NO Responsibility for LOSS of UNINSURED packages. I’ll say it another way, no refunds on lost packages, if they are not insured.
4.) I know that this can be a hardship, especially for International Buyers due to the prohibitive expense of mailing & insuring Parcel Post, which is the only way insured packages can be sent outside of the USA. Insurance is not available for the cheaper Letter-Post delivery. Yet keep in mind that out of about 1500 items that we’ve mailed throughout the world, only a mere handful (perhaps 6 or 7) has not been delivered. So the odds are extremely good that International Packages will arrive safely. But the buyer (domestic or international) is the one who takes the chance.
5.) This goes for domestic items too: no refunds on undelivered, uninsured packages. As to insured domestic packages: it is the responsibility of the buyer to collect insurance on these items. I will provide all appropriate sales documentation; and if necessary, the proper postal forms to the buyer.
Not to put too fine of a point on it -- but if you don’t feel that you can live with the above caveats -- don’t bid on my items. If you are interested in even more information, I deal with this morbid subject in even greater, excruciating detail on my Website (see above link). Thanks for your time. Regards, Berigan
