I WILL FIX THIS AUCTION AND ADD MORE PICTURES TOMORROW--THIS IS MEGA MEGA RARE CRUE! THIS LP WAS RELEASED IN 1981. THE US ELEKTRA LP WAS RELEASED IN 1982. THIS IS AS LEATHUR AS ANY OTHER LEATHUR LP, and 5X AS RARE. THE LABEL PHOTO IS ACCURATE. I WILL TAKE PICTURES OF THE POSTER & COVER TOMORROW.

I have known about the Canadian Leathur Lp for 20 years, and personally find that it is at least as rare as the US first pressing with the Crue logo printed in white. I've seen 4-5 true Canadian Leathur LPs, and I currently own 2 of those. I would estimate production of these rare LPs to be 5000, or less. I would not be surprised if there were no more than 2000 of them based on the infrequency in which I see them offered for sale.

The copy I am offering for sale is in overall VG++ condition w/ poster intact. Nikki's arms are folded in the poster, but Vince's hair has been repaired, unlike the US first pressing where Nikki's arms are also folded, but Vince's hair is GIANT. That makes this a third and totally unique poster. (In the US, the only copies of the Leathur LP where Nikki's arms are folded are the original pressing of only 900 copies.) The Canadian poster is printed on thinner paper than the US version. There is some light wrinkling to the poster/lyric sheet, but it is still very presentable. I'd rate the poster condition at about a 7 out of 10. The vinyl is a 9+ out of 10, and the jacket is an 8.5 out of 10. The poster is embossed, in the upper left corner, with the record's catalog number. (# 96 01741)

The fans have been slow to catch up with this extreme rarity. It appears the Canadians put the Leathur Mix on vinyl with red Elektra labels by mistake. The cover looks like a 2nd Leathur pressing, with red writing, but the poster inside is a touched up version of the original 1st pressings which were included with the 'white lettering' covers only. All this confusion packaged up in red Elektra labels, and a cover that looks like a Leathur pressing, to boot, makes for one extremely interesting, and rare official release.

To complicate things even further, there is more: most of the Canadian Leathur pressings had big golden promo stamps pressed into the back covers. Few non-promo copies with the Leathur Mix actually ever hit the retail market.What Canada did next is to use the old covers, still listing "Stick To Your Guns" as an included track, but then added freshly minted vinyl with the new Elektra version of the Lp; the B-Side label, however, still listed "Stick To your Guns" on it. This sloppy attempt at fixing the error produced a newer Elektra version of the LP, with a misleading cover, and labels, while still including the rarer poster where Nikki's arms are folded, but Vince's hair has been nicely reduced and retouched. What Elektra succeeded in doing is to produce the same exact record, visually speaking, as the first one with the Leathur Mix, but with the Elektra Mix on the wax, and no way to know it. I actuallly had to count the tracks in the black vinyl to figure out which version of the Lp I was holding. I was fortunate enough to acquire a promo copy of Elektra Canada's 2nd blunder. This promo had a large white rectangular sticker across the top that reads "The Nu Motley Crue LP: The debut album by California's newest, most outrageous band is reissued with a hot new mix by producer Roy Thomas Baker." (This so called reissue carries the same catalog number as the first issue with the Leathur Mix on it.)

Don't quote me on this, but I am pretty sure that what happened next is that the Canadians pressed another copy, with the "correct" label/track info., yet insisted on using every last cover which included the misleading track info. for "Stick To Your Guns" and looking, overall, like a Leathur Records copy, because all of the covers used up to this point, had been the same ones with the Crue logo offset to the right in smaller red lettering. I believe the covers were finally remade to reflect the Elektra Mix only after there were no more of the old covers left. Only in this fourth and final stage did the Canadian "Too Fast For Love" LP finally reflected an actual Elektra Records version like all the other copies around the world.

Anyway...that's the story on this mess...please bid if you want the first withdrawn one...!!

In Canada the reissue of TFFL on Elektra went gold selling 50,000 copies, the copies we have I am led to believe are as rare as the white lettering 1st pressing, the total sales for all official Leauthur LPs 1,2 & 3 is over 30,000. Sorry I do not know the extent of how many versions were made available to Canada, however what I would say is that you are underselling your copy by a mile!! If you have any further info then please let me know George and I will do the same. The Canadian version that I have is mint and I paid Backstage Auctions close to $400 from the Coffman auction. These pressings were made is my guess prior to Greenworld distribution getting involved. Kind Regards,

I will personally throw into the Crue pot an additional 1 Thousand dollars, plus the entire final sale price of this LP auction. I am encouraging anyone selling their Crue stuff on eBay to do the same. Include the name TETSO in your auction's title heading if you are willing to give any or all of the final sale price of your item for this cause.
