Mozart's Complete Piano Concertos

UK release - Stereo

12 LP box set with a 20 page full size booklet. Each record is on Philips' plum labels (for the avoidance of doubt, these are plum labels as opposed to the red labels I have seen for this release) and comes in the original poly-lined inner sleeves.  The box is black linen covered with a moulded relief image of Mozart.

Clearly, on Popsike, there are many copies of this release that have sold over the years with the Philips red labels and claiming to be first pressings.  I was always under the impression that the plum labels pre-date the red labels but I might be wrong.  As it is,  this is the only time I have seen this release on plum labels and certainly the matrices suggest that this is a UK first pressing.

Each LP has 1Y and 2Y matrices.

Inspected under a strong 35w halogen lamp the condition of each side is as follows:

LP1 - Sides 1&2 - faint sleeve withdrawal marks and scuffs - EX minus

LP2 - Sides 1&2 - unmarked - Near Mint

LP3 - Sides 1&2 - faint sleeve withdrawal 'hairlines' - EX

LP4 - Sides 1&2 - unmarked - Near Mint 

LP5 - Side 1 - heavy sleeve withdrawal 'hairlines' - EX minus ; Side 2 - heavy sleeve withdrawal 'hairlines' - VG+

LP6 - Side 1 - faint sleeve withdrawal 'hairlines' - EX; Side 2 - heavy sleeve withdrawal 'hairlines' - EX minus

LP7 - Side 1 - unmarked - Near Mint; Side 2 - faint sleeve withdrawal 'hairlines' - EX

LP8 - Sides 1&2 - unmarked - Near Mint

LP9 - Sides 1&2 - faint sleeve withdrawal 'hairlines' - EX

LP10 - Sides 1&2 - faint sleeve withdrawal 'hairlines' - EX

LP11 - Sides 1&2 - faint sleeve withdrawal 'hairlines' and scuffs - EX minus

LP12 - Sides 1&2 - faint sleeve withdrawal 'hairlines' and scuffs - EX minus.

All labels are unmarked with no spindle trails except for the labels on LP5 side 2, which has a spindle trail, and LP11 side 2, which has a spindle trail and a small stain (see photo).

The booklet is pristine

The box just has some wear on the back (please see photo) but is otherwise hard to find fault with.

The inners just have the odd faint crease if anything.

Overall Grading (Record / Box):

EXCELLENT  /  EXCELLENT MINUS

Grading Guide - Important!

I visually examine all records under a strong 35w halogen lamp, which shows up ALL defects.  Most sellers do not do this and, as a consequence, records graded under other sub-standard lighting, including normal room lights, will appear in far better condition than they really are.  Some even appear unmarked when, in reality, they are scratched.  I grade my records according to the Rare Record Price Guide (with the addition of the Near Mint grade), which means, to me, as follows:

Mint - Must be sealed or I must have evidence that it has never been played.

Near Mint - Totally unmarked, no scratches, not even faint 'hairlines' / sleeve withdrawal marks.

Excellent - No scratches, just signs of having been played, such as the odd faint 'hairline' or sleeve withdrawal mark that is barely visible under a strong lamp, or spindle trails on the label.

Very Good - The first mild scratches have begun to appear, but only very, very few.

Good - More scratches than Very Good and more severe, but I am confident that the record will play through with no problems and will still provide a good listening experience.

Fair - The record may not play through properly with a chance of it jumping, or it will play with significant background noise.

Poor - It definitely won't play without skipping or sticking.

Below Excellent I will use plus or minus with a grade to highlight fine differences.

I also sometimes play-grade records and the final grade is a combination of how it plays and looks.

Cover Grades

My cover grades are exactly as stated in the Record Collector magazine / Rare Record Price Guide as follows:

Mint: The cover and any extra items are in perfect condition

Excellent: The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing

Very Good: Normal wear and tear on the cover is acceptable

Good: The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration etc.

Fair: The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

All vinyl is dispatched using stiffeners and card mailers.
