Description
This is a very nice copy of the box set of Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro). It has Sesto Bruscantini as Figaro, Graziella Sciutti as Susanna, Franco Calabrese as the Count and Sena Juranic as the Countess. Vittorio Gui conducts the Glyndebourne Festival Orchestra and Chorus.
It's not quite clear to me when the recording was made, but it's in glorious monophonic sound so it's likely to be the fifties or early sixties.
The box is in very good condition structurally, though there a couple of marks where it looks as if Sellotape has been removed. But the corners are all solid and undamaged.
The contents are four LPs, seven sides - the first LP only has one side! It also includes a summary booklet about the opera, though sadly no libretto. But these days, the internet can help you with that.
The four LPs look in extremely good condition - indeed, it looks and sounds to me as if the last two LPs may not ever have been played, previously to my test playing. The first two records (three sides) sound quite good, though they've clearly been played quite frequently. However the last two sound excellent - as good as new. You can almost imagine that, on a regular basis, the original owner settled down to listen to it, got as far as the end of Side 3, and then thought "OK, that's enough Mozart opera - I need to listen to something else." I have taken the records out of the old-fashioned plastic inner linings (though I have included them) and replaced the inner linings with new inner sleeves.
This is not the ultra-rare stereo recording, sadly, but it is a good substitute - and I think you'll do well to get a nicer copy. - particularly of the second half of the opera.
