This auction is for an original sealed and mint copy of Rebirth Cycle by Mtume. This piece is from my personal collection. Recorded in 1974 and released in 1977 on Third Street, this is the third album by James Mtume and it is among the most beautiful and significant spiritual jazz records of the era. Mtume, a member of the Miles Davis ensemble that made On The Corner had worked on albums led by McCoy Tyner and Lonnie Liston Smith among others. In 1974 he recorded Miles Davis's Dark Magus, Carlos Garnett's Black Love and this album which brought together a luminous group of jazz performers: Jean Carn, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Jimmy Heath, Azar Lawrence, Stanley Cowell, Reggie Lucas, Buster Williams, Cecil McBee, Leroy Jenkins, Billy Hart, Pete Cosey, Michael Henderson, Al Foster and many others. The album features the following compositions: Sais (Intro), Sais, Yebo, Cabral, Body Sounds, Umoja. Under appreciated, this recording is a gorgeous suite of music by a masterful group of performers.
