Description

ARTIST(S)/GROUP: Muddy Waters

TITLE:  Sings "Big Bill" -- the Songs of "Big Bill" Broonzy

LABEL/NUMBER:  Chess LP 1444

FORMAT:  LP Record/Vinyl/STEREO

CONDITION:  Vinyl is shiny VG++, Cover is VG, with some edge wear and splitting and mild discoloration on the back.

Record is from the amazing personal collection of well-known San Francisco DJ Abe “Voco Kesh” Keshishian. Voco was an avid collector of blues, jazz, r/b and rock records who maintained his vinyl meticulously and accumulated early edition pieces. Check my other auctions for more from Kesh's collection.

Known for his KSAN radio show, “Lights Out San Francisco,” Voco was instrumental in the careers of artists like Blue Cheer and Harvey Mandel. He died of a heart attack in 1989 and his records were well-kept in storage until a recent auction.

Says Allmusic:

Waters's tribute album to the man who gave him his start on the Chicago circuit, this stuff doesn't sound much like Broonzy so much as a virtual recasting of his songs into Muddy's electric Chicago style. Evidently the first time Waters and his band were recorded in stereo, the highlights include high voltage takes on "When I Get to Drinkin'" and "The Mopper's Blues," with some really great harp from James Cotton as an added bonus.
