Description
The rare 10" vinyl Long Player offered for sale here, is undated but we believe that it probably dates to the late 1940s or early 1950s. It was No.2 in a Series (Music of Africa), issued by the Decca Record Company Limited,collected and introduced by Hugh Tracey. Side One has seven tracks, four by the Nandi Tribe (Iong'ilo, Kapchinja, Polan and Arap Kapero) and three by the Kipsigis Tribe (Uro Uro ee, Kongoi Maitoling and Bengeria). side Two has Chemirocha (Jimmy Rodgers) by the Kipsigis Tribe, Odiambo Odet (The Bright Eyed Boy) and Chief Gideon Magak by the Luo Tribe and Nanda Mundani,Yuno Mwazonga and Balozi na upanga by the Nyika/Kamba/Chonye/Giriyama Tribes. Instruments featured are Kipukandet 5 string Lyre, the Chepkong Lyre, Thum lyre, Oruto Lute, Gara Leg Bells and Kayamba Castonets. Apart from the usual vinyl mono background noise, the record appears to be in very good condition and has no discernable scratches.
