'Music in the world of Islam' - rare complete box set of all six LPs, covering:
Album 1. The Human Voice Album 2. Lutes Album 3. Strings Album 4. Flutes and Trumpets Album 5. Reeds and Bagpipes Album 6. Drums and Rhythms.
A real collector's item, these iconic recordings feature musicians and singers from diverse countries including Afghanistan, Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Malaysia, Morocco, Nigeria, Pakistan, Soviet Central Asia, Turkey, Uganda, and the United Arab Emirates.
The recordings were made by famous ethnomusicologists Jean Jenkins and Poul Rovsing Olsen and the box set produced by Tangent Records. It was released in the spring of 1976 to coincide with the World of Islam Festival which was opened by the Queen in London.
The only LP which looks like it has been played, though still in super condition, is the first one, The Human Voice. The other five albums look to be in mint or near mint condition, possibly un-played.
The presentation box is solid but shows evidence of wear and tear (e.g. torn edges) in line with its age, over 45 years old. The cardboard album cover on Album 6 also needs re-gluing.
