Label Conditions: Both Mint and immaculate: ultra clean, fresh and hugely attractive and I cannot see a single spindle trace at all. They have that lovely ‘cling’ when the fingertip is brushed over their surfaces, this record looks and plays practically as new.

Warps: Assume all records I offer have no warping of any significance and all tracking is easy and effortless and should play on all turntables and even ‘budget’ decks.

Brief Info: Another late discovery for this 54-year-old, a superb Scottish folk trio that, until now, had completely bypassed me. The irresistible cover drew my attention to this quite gorgeous record. Natural Acoustic Band made just two albums, this being the first. Fronted vocally by Krysia Kocjan, a lady that was blessed with a superb and distinctively original vocal style. They played in several major venues and even appeared on television’s ‘Old Grey Whistle Test’ as well as supporting many well-known big acts of the era. This ultimate first pressed record is simply pristine and being on RCA, nothing was taken for granted regarding pressing quality – but this one plays beautifully with nothing unwanted. A crucial factor for the more discerning collector with, as you would expect, the band playing acoustic music. The cover has a little minor wear on the edges and back, but few will better this. A somewhat ‘lost’ folk treasure that will delight fans of the genre, unreservedly recommended.

Cover Grade and Format: EXCELLENT: this being ultra critical for a very delicate cover and worthy of an extra (+). An unlaminated gatefold format with the outside faces being quite heavily textured. The inside is matt and smooth. Printed and made in England by Clout & Baker.

Cover Front: Apart from the mildest and faintest traces of discolour around the edges, this front is gorgeous. Barely any hint of wear at all and on it’s own grades at least Excellent(++). The textured surface has no rubbing or speckle and is totally crease-free. Lovely artwork too, this is a mini work-of-art and will prove immensely difficult to find better.

Cover Back: A predominately black matt and textured surface will of course be prone to all forms of wear, time, heavy handling and bad storage has to offer. This has little overall with just a little mild rubbing near the left and bottom edges. A very small and light rim arc rub at the bottom but try to find one with less. In terms of ringwear on the scale, this barely gets a 1 out of 10 and clearly, this cover has been well cared for for it’s 40-odd years.

Cover Inner Gatefold: The inside is little short of pristine as made.

Top Edges: Any rub traces tiny, few and very faint.

Bottom Edges: Light rubbing on the back, any on the front barely registers.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Clean, sharp with little wear, any thickening or burring minimal and faint. Record enters on the back edge.

Spine and Text: A fragile spine with a little mild crinkle and one small black ‘smudge’, my best guess, the previous owner (clearly fussy) tried a small tip in, so it shows. Still solid, straight with slight compression to the fairly soft card. A very milt tilt to the right but folded square, so the edges meet up very closely together and parallel. All text is perfect and unworn, and I consider that a real bonus on one like this.

Corners: Mainly light tip rubs that few, if any will ever avoid at the bare minimum. All retain very fine or better shape.

Cover Summary: A very strong all-round example of this very fragile 70’s cover, one that will prove very difficult to find much better. This beautiful item should please many, if not most collectors. Not one that will be seen often or like this. This includes it’s original plain unlined inner that has darkened with age but that apart, has not other wear.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: MINT(-): a superb visual copy that is very clean, shiny, intense black and very solidly pressed. A copy possibly played once, if indeed at all with two immaculate playing surfaces that show barely any hints or surface marks or blemishes. This too viewed under bright angled light, I cannot imagine a much better first issue of this gem ever being offered. Visually a super record that should please all collectors.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or minuscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This practically pristine RCA record plays up to it’s high visual grading with nothing to fault. Strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear - sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. Any surface sounds barely even registered and no pops or clicks were noted and this is an exceptional clean pressing (especially so for orange label era RCA). Few copies will match or outperform this first pressing I feel sure. Both channels are clean and sharp, I am certain this record has been played very lightly and has been clearly well stored and carefully handled. Nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this wonderful record – just wish I had discovered it earlier – still better late than never I guess. This record will prove nigh-on impossible to find better and my highest possible recommendation is mandatory.

The record’s cover will be placed within a BRAND NEW soft protective sleeve and the actual record will be professionally cleaned on my new VPI-17 Pro vacuum system to give ultimate clean grooves and playing surfaces and the best possible looks and ultimate sound quality. You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. All records are posted in professional boxes (NOT Mailers, these do not offer any real protection). The record(s) are REMOVED from their main cover to avoid edge splits and placed within a brand new polylined inner. The record’s original inner will be included if available. SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
