This is a genuine 24 karat gold plated record album. I believe a very limited number of these were produced, to promote the 1978 release of Neil Diamond’s “20 Golden Greats” LP. The packaging is in itself a work of art and in addition to the 24 karat gold plated record includes the following features:

-     a clear plastic inner sleeve with a gold sticker advising that the gold plated album should be handled with extreme care.

-         The plastic inner sleeve fits into another green inner sleeve with gold writing that refers to this as the Neil Diamond Gold Collector’s Edition. It also explains that a special process was used in the gold plating that resulted in this record having achieved “near perfect audio fidelity to the original recording”.  I have never attempted to put this on a turntable, as to do so, and risk damaging it would be pure insanity. For anyone who wants this album for the music itself, read on ….

-         Because of the value of this record, the package includes a regular black vinyl version of the album, so that the music may be heard without risking damage to the gold plated version. This black vinyl copy is still factory sealed, so virtually brand new. As for the gold plated record, there is a slight bit of scuffing and faint surface scratches on it, which would suggest to me that someone has played it.   

-         All of the above are contained within a green box (similar to a box set of records).

All of the above are in immaculate condition. The 24 karat gold record has value in itself  – but the true treasure lies in the entire package which is a must for any Neil Diamond enthusiast. The chances of finding another copy of this package are likely next to none. This is a collector’s item in the truest sense.
