· NEIL YOUNG - AFTER THE GOLDRUSH - ORIGINAL 1970 REPRISE RECORDS STEREO LP 6383 (PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS NOT A MID-TO-LATE REISSUE WITH CATALOG NUMBER MSK-2283).
· ORIGINAL U.S. PRESSING
· ARTISAN PRESSING, PASADENA, CA
· INSANELY RARE - PRACTICALLY UNDOCUMENTED (WE BELIEVE THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THE PHOTO OF THIS PRESSING EVER APPEARS ANYWHERE) COVER WITH THE PIANO CREDITS GIVEN TO T W O (NOT ONE, AND NOT THREE) SESSION PLAYERS: NILS LOFGREN AND JACK NITZSCHE ONLY : NEIL YOUNG IS MYSTERIOUSLY OMITTED AS THE THIRD PIANO PLAYER, BUT JACK NITZSCHE ISN'T. WE HAVE ONLY ONCE - ABOUT 15 YEARS AGO - HEARD OF THE ALLEGED EXISTENCE OF THIS ELUSIVE COVER, SOMETHING WE HAVE IMMEDIATELY DISMISSED AS A RECORD-COLLECTING FISHING STORY. YOURS TRULY EVEN FORGOT ALL ABOUT IT UNTIL HE SPOTTED THIS BIGFOOT OF A COVER (AND WAS FLOORED BY IT). THIS SELLER COMFORTABLY STATES THAT THIS IS THE RAREST VERSION OF THIS COVER IN EXISTENCE - FAR, FAR RARER THAN EVEN THE MISPRESSINGS WITH MARC BOLAN PHOTO ON THE INSIDE. WE CAN'T SPECULATE WHICH, IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER, THIS COVER MAY BE. IT MAY HAVE BEEN A MYTHICALLY RARE ORIGINALLY INTENDED COVER, OR IT MAY HAVE BEEN A SHORT-LIVED TRANSITIONAL VERSION IN PRINT FOR ONLY A NANOSECOND. EITHER WAY, THE RARITY OF THIS COVER IS NOTHING SHORT OF MONUMENTAL.
· ORIGINAL TAN (PALE BROWN) REPRISE LABEL WITH RIVERBOAT LOGO AND WITHOUT WEA LOGO ON THE LABEL’S EDGE [PLESE SEE OUR NOTE BELOW FOR DETAILS].
· PLEASE NOTE: IN THE INTEREST OF FULL DISCLOSURE, WE SHOULD NOTE THAT WE DISAGREE WITH MANY COLLECTORS AS TO WHAT CONSTITUTES THE FIRST PRESSING OF THIS ALBUM. NAMELY, OVER THE YEARS, WE HAVE MET AT LEAST FOUR INDIVIDUALS WHO CLAIMED TO HAVE SEEN OR HELD A NEAR-MYTHICAL 2-TONE LABEL PRESSINGS OF THIS ALBUM, WHICH – IF THIS CLAIM IS ACCURATE – WOULD PRECEDE THE PRESSING WE HAVE HERE BY AT LEAST 3 TO 6 MONTHS. HOWEVER, THE ONLY SUCH PRESSINGS WE HAVE SEEN IN 45 YEARS OF COLLECTING WERE CERTIFIABLY RCA OR CAPITOL RECORD CLUB PRESSINGS, NOT REGULAR REPRISE PRESSINGS! IF ANYONE DISAGREES WITH OUR CLAIM AND CARES TO SEND US A HIGH-RESOLUTION JPEG OR BMP IMAGE OF THE 2-TONE LABEL, WE WOULD BE HAPPY TO LOOK INTO THIS AND RETHINK OUR POSITION. UNTIL THEN, WE REMAIN UNCONVINCED AND SKEPTICAL. PLEASE BE ADVISED ACCORDINGLY
· THIS IS THE ORIGINAL, AUTHENTIC, FIRST U.S. PRESSING; THIS IS NOT A REISSUE, AN IMPORT, OR A COUNTERFEIT PRESSING.
· SORRY, ORIGINAL INSERT NOT INCLUDED, BUT COURTESY OF THE ORIGINAL OWNER, THE WINNING BIDDER GETS TO RECEIVE A FOLDOUT POSTER FROM THE 1971 ISSUE OF THE CIRCUS MAGAZINE (PLEASE SEE THE ATTACHED IMAGE)
· ORIGINAL GATEFOLD COVER, MADE OF THICK CARDBOARD (AMERICAN STYLE)
· CLEAN, WEAR-FREE LABELS
· FAIRLY THICK VINYL PRESSING On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and 10 being the most severe), we assess the thickness of the vinyl as 7.
(►PLEASE SEE THE IMAGE OF THE COVER, LABEL OR BOTH, SHOWN BELOW)

In the 15 months between the release of Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere and After the Gold Rush, Neil Young issued a series of recordings in different styles that could have prepared his listeners for the differences between the two LPs. His two compositions on the Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young album Déjà Vu, "Helpless" and "Country Girl," returned him to the folk and country styles he had pursued before delving into the hard rock of Everybody Knows; two other singles, "Sugar Mountain" and "Oh, Lonesome Me," also emphasized those roots. But "Ohio," a CSNY single, rocked as hard as anything on the second album. After the Gold Rush was recorded with the aid of Nils Lofgren, a 17-year-old unknown whose piano was a major instrument, turning one of the few real rockers, "Southern Man" (which had unsparing protest lyrics typical of Phil Ochs), into a more stately effort than anything on the previous album and giving a classic tone to the title track, a mystical ballad that featured some of Young's most imaginative lyrics and became one of his most memorable songs. But much of After the Gold Rush consisted of country-folk love songs, which consolidated the audience Young had earned through his tours and recordings with CSNY; its dark yet hopeful tone matched the tenor of the times in 1970, making it one of the definitive singer/songwriter albums, and it has remained among Young's major achievements.
(EXCERPT FROM AN ONLINE REVIEW BY WILLIAM RUHLMAN, ALL MUSIC GUIDE /ALLMUSIC.COM/)

· CONDITION:
· RECORD
(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)
(a) WE GRADE THE VINYL AS EXCELLENT. This is one of those albums that are somewhat difficult to grade. It is somewhere between VG++ and NEAR MINT, just a notch below NEAR MINT. A few light abrasions ARE visible, but they are extremely shallow, superficial and only moderately visually distracting (nothing significant). For the most part, the vinyl looks impeccable without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.
(b) The record is pressed on a RELATIVELY thick, inflexible vinyl. This is NOT a thin, flimsy ('dynaflex' type), vinyl, but not the thickest, most rigid vinyl, either.
(c) The album comes with the original foldout poster from the 1971 issue of Circus magazine (slightly torn along the foldings, but essentially whole and complete, no part is missing)
(d) Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

- Cover shows some light yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging (nothing significant). Yellowing is also noted on the INSIDE gatefold.
- Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine (VISIBLE ON BACK SIDE ONLY)
