Description
In 1929, Columbia Records chose LLOYD K. HILLMAN'S 1640 BOYS to launch their new West Coast 40000-D series, at first home to such diverse acts as Curtis Mosby's Dixieland Blue Blowers, Anson Weeks' Orchestra and Madame Riviere's Hawaiians, before it settled into essentially a big promotional tool for Sol Hoopi's Novelty Trio.
The "1640 Boys," TOMMY MONROE and BOB ALLEN croon their own "NEVER AGAIN," backed with "I GOTTA MISERY." They're pleasant enough, and have some nice jazz to back them up.
EITHER I'm just lucky, or I've got too much time on my hands. By a lucky chance discovery, which I'm happy to share with you, I have learned that Lloyd K. Hillman was an enterprising used car salesman in San Francisco, whose lot was located at 1640 Van Ness Avenue. He also had a morning disc jockey stint on KFRC. A real empire builder. Aren't you glad you paid attention this far?
This original Columbia 40000-D is in pretty nice E- condition. A little wear, a few scratches.

These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing! My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value. I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all. If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will!
