NEW YORK STATE SPECIAL OLYMPICS BAND LP
(1972 - MARK RECORDS)
Mentally handicapped children playing cover songs in 1972.
This band was assembled for the Special Olympics, but never played the opening ceremony due to beaurocratic issues.
The director insisted this lp still be made.
It was recorded in 3 week sessions with children from a number of schools.
A remarkable document, partly based on the director’s interest the particular musical abilities of each handicapped child.
He wrote and instructed these tracks according to these abilities.
The results are fun, interesting and quite unique!
An incredibly rare private record on Mark label which made custom vinyl in small numbers.
