USA ORIGINAL Deep Groove Pressing, 1960.
This is a KEY record in the History of Jazz with excellent recordings.
Artists on this LP include Abbey Lincoln (vocal), Benny Bailey (trumpet), Booker
Little (trumpet), Charles Mingus (bass), Eric Dolphy (alto saxophone), Jimmy
Knepper (trombone), Jo Jones (drums), Julian Priester (trombone), Kenny Dorham
(piano), Peck Morrison (bass), Roy Eldrige (trumpet), Tommy Flanagan (piano)
and Walter Benton (tenor saxophone).

The one positive accomplishment of the 1960 Newport Festival was the creation in
rebellion of a musicians' festival at Cliff Walk Manor. That set is included on this
album and the Cliff Manor is photographed on the cover. The event became a
"Musicians" festival and led to the formation of a "Jazz Artists Guild". Ultimately
this resulted in a greater mixing of older and younger jazzmen, as well as the
introduction of less rigid playing stlyes.
The Guild was organised by Charlie Mingus and Max Roach in protest against the
accelerating commercialization of the annual production at Freebody Park.
Despite the fact that these Candid recording sessions were held in a studio, the
music reflected the high-spirited freedom of the best jazz played at the original
setting, because nearly all of it was improvised during the recording,
