NIC JONES  - 'Ballads and Songs'

(Rare UK Original Press on TRAILER, # LER 2014 from 1970)

 

Label/Sleeve -> Red Trailer Label.  Sleeve Notes by Dave and Toni Arthur. Sleeve printed and made by MacNeill Press Ltd., London. And has the Leader Sound address of London N.W.1.

 

Grade (Cover/Vinyl)  -> VG+(+) /MINT-

 

Description -> Vinyl is in pristine shape. NO spindle marks, clean and shiny looking like new vinyl. Plays with superb sound.

The cover is in nice shape, clean and shiny with extremely light wear except a split top seam (2-2.5 inches) . Nice Clean and readable spine. Harder to upgrade for this folk gem (See picture).

 

This first solo album seems to set the tone for Nic Jones' five album set. The intricate guitar work is immediately

apparent, while the forceful singing drives the long ballads at a pace which demands the listener's full attention. Somber,

perhaps, but never repetitious.

Here we already have two of the songs that are most often cited now as among Nic's most lasting contributions to the

tradition - Annan Water and Sir Patrick Spens
