NICK DRAKE – FIVE LEAVES LEFT – 1969 GENUINE UK 1ST – PINK ISLAND ILPS 9105
A milestone of UK folk - one of the most sought after UK album ever!
“ An album that has grown and grown in stature since its 1969 release on Island records, Nick Drake’s debut LP has been hailed as one of the greatest folk albums of all time. Described by Q magazine as "The pinnacle of a melancholy canon of work so distinctive that admirers can only speculate miserably on what might have been", it was quirkily named after the warning that appeared towards the end of Rizla cigarette papers. Recorded whilst Drake was still a student at Cambridge University, and featuring Danny Thompson on bass and Richard Thompson on electric guitar, it features some of his best loved songs in ‘Fruit Tree’, ‘Cello Song’ and ‘River Man’.”
This is the original 1969 first UK pressing on Pink ISLAND with Black circle logo IPLS -9105. This is the Smooth Label – variant 2 with ridged edge. The matrix numbers are IPLS 9105 A//2 & IPLS 9105 B//2 which are machine stamped.
The mat gatefold sleeve was printed by Ernest J Day & Co Ltd and the track order for “Day Is Done” and “Way To Blue” is reversed on the cover. The label shows the correct track order listing. The Island Records address on the back is Basing Street, London W11
