Description
Here is a rare chance to acquire at a bargain price an original UK copy of Nick Drake's debut album, Five Leaves Left, on very first pressing black block pink Island (ILPS-9105) from 1969.
It is clear this disc has enjoyed hardly any play at all. Both pink Island labels are unblemished and when examined under harsh halogen lighting they show hardly any spindle activity at all, and certainly no spindle 'wear'.
The disc is as black and glossy as the day it was produced but there are two long scuffs (possibly careless nail marks?) on one side which I have attempted to show in one of my pictures. These scuff marks result in some clicking (really more of a light 'flicking' sound) on various parts of three consecutive tracks - Three Hours, Way To Blue and Day Is Done - though this intermittent background noise is not too intrusive, certainly not to my ears, and the quality of the pressing is so good that the music itself shines through with precision and clarity. There are no jumps or skips.
Side Two looks brilliant, even when examined under halogen lighting. It is a shame the first side isn't so good.
The original first issue unlaminated gatefold sleeve typically suffers from a sticker tear on the front and general edgewear. Nevertheless it is perfectly presentable and the sticker tear could be touched in if you felt it necessary. This first issue Basing Street sleeve features the incorrect side one track listing which mistakenly places Way To Blue after Day Is Done.
