Description

HERE is an ultra rare original UK stereo pressing of Nick Drake's brilliant third and final LP, Pink Moon, on first press pink rim island from 1972.

This is a true first pressing with machine-stamped A-1U/B-1U matrices and 1R and 2 GA mother stampers, together with the Basing Street, London, company address on the unlaminated first press Tinsley Robor gatefold sleeve.

The strong unlaminated Robor gatefold sleeve is in solid VG+ condition with lovely straight edges, all spinal text visible, a little light rubbing and creasing, light cornerwear and edgewear and no unwanted writing and no rips.

The attractive pink rim island labels are in EX condition with no unwanted writing, no sticker residue and no tears, while close examination under light reveals only two or three of the very scantiest of spindle marks, denoting very little play.

Both sides of the vinyl look EX in natural light with various fine sleeve removal surface marks showing when examined under strong halogen light. There are no deep or feelable scratches, and the disc plays fantastically from beginning to end, both sides, with no skips or jumps.

The disc is housed in its original sky blue poly-lined inner bag with the correct island records ltd Basing Street company address.

This lovely first pressing vinyl plays with great brightness and clarity, so that you can almost hear Nick's fingers touching the strings, and the fact that the mic is too close on Things Behind The Sun. You are drawn in by Nick's intimate and breathy, at times almost spoken, lyrics, in enigmatic songs drawn deep from the songwriter's psyche ('I am the parasite who hangs from your skirt'). Just 11 perfectly formed tracks lasting only half an hour yet which cemented Nick's reputation for always.
