I show the worst of the two labels in photo.
I play each LP and grade according to GOLDMINE STANDARDS:
(my notes in italics)
SS: Still Sealed - in factory-fresh condition.
M: Mint - perfect, factory-fresh but opened.
M-: Mint Minus - a near perfect record. M- records are shiny, with no visible defects. Writing, stickers, spindle marks, or other markings cannot appear on the label. M- jackets have no creases, ring wear or seam splits of any kind.
VG+: Very Good Plus - only superficial signs of use that don’t affect play. May show some slight signs of wear, including light scuffs or very light scratches that do not affect listening experience. (May have some slight surface noise in quiet passages). VG+ jackets may have very light ring wear or discoloration, barely noticeable. Might have some very minor seam wear or a split (less than 2” long). Could have cut-out or similar markings.
VG: Very Good - a used, reasonable copy. Can have light scratches deep enough to feel with a fingernail. Has surface noise which doesn’t overpower the music. Some scratches may be audible. Label can have minor writing, tape or sticker. VG jackets have obvious ring wear, but not overwhelming; more creases visible. Seam splitting more obvious; it may appear on all three sides, though it won’t be obvious upon looking. Someone might have written on it or stamped a price tag on it.
VG-: Very Good Minus - significant wear and marks and usually quite noticeable surface noise.
G+: Good Plus. In the record world, 'Good' is not good! From here on down (Fair, Poor), we're talking about beat-up records.
