LP (Item 78241) Stroud, 1972 — Condition: Used 

THIS ITEM WAS CONTAINED IN A COLLECTION OF LPS THAT I FOUND OVER THE YEARS.  THE COVER HAS SOME ISSUES,  BUT THE LP IS VERY CLEAN AND I PLAYED SEVERAL SELECTIONS ON BOTH SIDES AND DID NOT ENCOUNTER ANY ISSUES.  BELOW IS A DESCRIPTION THAT I BORROWED TO DESCRIBE THE ITEM.

A rare one from Nina Simone – a set that was issued during her years on RCA, but on the smaller Stroud label – run by husband Andy Stroud! The set's what you'd guess from the title – a tribute to Billie Holiday, but one that's way more than just a copycat of Lady Day's mode – as Nina brings plenty of herself to the record, and gives a number of the tunes a relatively dark feel overall. The backing is spare and jazzy, much more traditional at times than some of Nina's other 70s recordings – but also with some great blue-hued piano parts too – creating a sense of depth that echoes out beautifully on some of the mellower numbers. Titles include an incredible version of "Strange Fruit", plus "Don't Explain", "Fine & Mellow", "Love Me Or Leave Me", and "Just In Time".  © 1996-2019, D
