An overall truly excellent condition and highly presentable copy of this increasingly rare and highly sought after 1971 UK 1st press prog/psych gem on the iconic Vertigo (large) swirl label, 6360 031

The condition of the vinyl is at least excellent (EX). Completely flat and nicely weighty, each side of the vinyl is glossy and has retained a beautiful jet black sheen. In normal daylight each side of the vinyl comes across as perfect, and it is only with close inspection under a bright light that the a few extremely wispy hairlines and equally light paper scuff marks come into view - remarkable, especially considering that this vinyl is now a 50 year old antiquity. Clearly this record has been sparingly played.

The labels are also excellent plus (EX+). Just a few extremely faint and small spindle trails on each adjacent to the centre hole, otherwise perfect with the black text upon the white background and, of course, the iconic Vertigo swirl logo on each label all remaining in great condition.

The condition of the non-laminated Howards Printers outer gatefold sleeve is very good (VG). I would have no hesitation in grading the condition of this still beautiful gatefold sleeve as excellent were it not for the fairly obvious old sticker mark on the front side (see photo)...I am sure that the appearance of this 5cm by 3cm blemish could be improved upon, with care, but I'm not the right person to attempt that! The only other blemishes are some light, mild rubbing on each corner, a couple of light "nicks" on the spine (where all text remains intact and fully legible), and some light intermittent, non-obvious scuff marks on the bottom edge. Each edge remains firm, including the opening edges where there is no fraying, and the terrific art work, colours, and text all remain nicely intact. 

The audio quality is truly excellent (EX), at least. Great tone and clarity throughout with no distortion even on the higher frequencies and at higher volume. No sticks, jumps, repeats, interference or background crackle. I noticed a single light click during the interlude between A2 and A3, x2 light clicks towards the beginning of B2, and x1 light click at about the middle of B3 - I stress that these clicks are very light and background and do NOT impinge upon the overall wonderful sound quality, and close inspection revealed no obvious cause so I can only put the blame on the odd speck of dust caught in the grooves through decades of storage. This is a wonderful album, with each track making for a great listen.

Comes complete with original and excellent condition poly-lined black and white Vertigo swirl inner sleeve, correctly dated as "0171" and with no seam splits, tears, or edge fraying - just some mild creasing in each corner and some light age discolouration next to the edges. Note that I always insert the vinyl into a separate new poly-lined inner sleeve for shipping purposes and in order to protect the original.

A welcome addition to any serious vinyl collection - rock, prog, psych...it's all here and will only continue to gain in value.

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl thick cardboard mailer, along with extra protective flange edges, with at least two thick cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in separating the record from the outer sleeve in order to help prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

Mint

The records itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items, such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and /or creasing.

Very Good

The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

Fair

The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents are torn, stained and/or defaced

Poor

The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents are badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad

The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler
