Mostly consisting of Seattle area bands, this Kiss covers album is probably most famous for featuring the only Nirvana recording with Jason Everman on guitar. But as interesting as this fact is, there are many other great songs to hear on this hit-or-miss compilation. Bullet LaVolta performs "Detroit Rock City" like a band possessed; their rendition is more intense and angry than the original. All makes "Christine 16" into a sweet pop-punk ditty, while Coffin Break plows through their hilarious cover of "Beth" in a little over a minute. The Melvins probably have the most impressive song of the bunch with their sludge rock cover of "God of Thunder." Buzz Osbourne sounds like a demon, belching Gene Simmons' hilarious "evil" lyrics much more effectively than the original. Other local bands join in on the fun, and very rarely is the album unlistenable (but Skin Yard comes close with their acid-throated rendition of "Snowblind"). Kiss fans may be turned off by the loose interpretations of some of the classics, but this album is fun and way better than the Kiss-sponsored Kiss My Ass tribute that appeared a few years later.
