Nirvana – Incesticide (1992) Incesticide is not a traditional studio album but rather a compilation of B-sides, demos, outtakes, radio sessions, and rarities from Nirvana’s earlier years, released between their breakthrough (Nevermind) and final studio album (In Utero). Despite its nature as a "stopgap" release, Incesticide is a raw and revealing look into the band’s punk influences, noise rock tendencies, and early songwriting. It includes covers (like the Vaselines’ “Molly’s Lips” and “Son of a Gun”), sludgy punk blasts (“Beeswax,” “Downer”), and quirky outliers like “Aneurysm,” a fan favorite for its dynamic shifts and explosive energy. Kurt Cobain used the album as a statement—both musically and politically—calling out the sexism and homophobia that had begun creeping into Nirvana’s fan base. With Incesticide, Nirvana reaffirmed their roots in underground punk and indie rock, showing that their rawness wasn’t manufactured and that their ethos wasn’t for sale.
