LP : Norbert Foltynowicz – Jazz Today

This record has been under the radar of most collectors of European private/small label jazz for a long time, fortunately this has changed most recently, e.g. the mighty Jazzman Gerald features one of the record's tracks in >>SPIRITUAL JAZZ - THE LOST TRACKS - selected by Gerald "Jazzman" Short<<. The recording dates of the 15 tracks are 1966 ( July & December) and 1967 ( January ), N.Foltynowicz plays various instruments in different line-ups from trio to septet, N.F.'s main-instruments are the piano and the baritonesax, on some tracks he plays 2 or 3 instruments via overdubbing. Nothing seems to be known about this musician (no infos given in the back linernotes) and there's also not much known about the record-company. The release ( in MONO) is on MONDANO, ML 01, maybe this number indicates that this is the first LP released ca. 1967 on that tiny label, wich also made a couple of “German Schlager”-records as well as a 7-inch of the local football-club “BVB Borussia Dortmund”. It's a “Gustav A.Küper Produktion, Dortmund”, this guy seems to be the owner of the MONDANO company. I live nearby Dortmund and I search fleemarkets, record-fairs and record-shops in that town for jazz-records since 30 years, in this time I found 2 copies of that LP: I bought my own in the late 80ies and I found the copy for sale a few weeks ago.

Besides the bossa-track the LP has some modal jazz, hard-bop, modern mainstream and more. To say it clear: there's absolutely NO swing-, oldtime- or dixie-jazz on this one - all tracks are pretty interesting and worth listening.

Condition: the record looks ex- to vg++ in daylight & in normal artificial light, it looks vg+ under a very strong halogen lamp ( several tiny sleeve- & hairlines, few superficial light scuffs) . It plays in mint- nearly all of the time, there are just some very occasional soft background-tics behind the music on just a few tracks, nothing serious and very mild, most tracks play in mint-; overall playgrading: mint-- to ex++.

Unfortunately the cover shows pretty much wear, all seams/spine are intact but they are rubbed for the most, front & back show ringwear plus discolouration & dirt spots, there's a sticker of the pre-owner on the front, there's a tear in the lower left corner on the back wich makes the “Gustav A.Küper Produktion, Dortmund” un-readable for the most, there's also some cornerwear; the 2 best things about the cover are that the front lettering plus the trumpet are still fine and that the complete titles/line-ups/liner notes on the back are absolutely well-readable; overall vg--. Please check all photos !

For safety-reasons and due to the real sensitive original cover I will ship the record placed into a second cover !

Zustand: die LP sieht bei Tageslicht & unter einer normalen Lampe ex- bis vg++ aus, unter einer sehr hellen Halogenlampe sieht sie vg+ aus ( einige dünne Papier- und Haarlinien, einige wenige oberflächliche leichte Wischer). Sie spielt fast durchgehend in mint-, es gibt nur einige leise Hintergrund-Tics hinter der Musik bei einigen der Stücke, nichts ernsthaftes und sehr dezent, die meisten Tracks spielen in mint-; insgesamt akkustische Bewertung als mint-- bis ex++.

Leider hat das Cover etliche Gebrauchsspuren, alle Kanten sind zwar intakt aber grösstenteils mit Abrieb, Vorder- & Rückseite haben Ringwear plus Verfärbungen & Schmutzflecken, auf der Vorderseite ist ein Aufkleber des Vorbesitzers, in der linken unteren Ecke der Rückseite ist ein Abriss/Tear welcher die Schrift “Gustav A.Küper Produktion, Dortmund” fast komplett unleserlich macht, die Ecken habe auch wear; die 2 besten Dinge am Cover sind dass auf der Vorderseite die Schrift plus der Trompete noch schön erhalten sind und dass auf der Rückseite die Titel/Besetzungen/Liner-Notes sehr gut lesbar sind; insgesamt in vg--. Bitte alle Fotos ansehen !

Aus Sichertheitsgründen und auf Grund des sehr empfindlichen Original-Covers werde ich die LP seperat in einem zusätzlichen Cover versenden !

Alle Platten wurden professionell gereinigt, entweder von mir (Hannl Mikro) oder von den Vorbesitzern (Okki Nokki, Loricraft o.Ä.). Anschließend wurden sie nur wenige Male abgespielt bzw. nur einmal von mir zum Bewerten angehört (komplett oder in Ausschnitten). Optische Bewertung erfolgt in Tageslicht, in normalen Kunstlicht & unter einer sehr hellen Halogenlampe. Platten kommen mit neuer hochwertiger Innenhülle & in einer Schutzhülle. Bitte beachten: auch prof. gereinigte Platten können einige Staubpartikel haben; “eingefangen” während optischer & akkustischer Bewertung, Fotografieren oder den wenigen Abspielungen der Vorbesitzer.

Grading & Cleaning:

• all records have been cleaned on a professional record cleaning machine, either by me (Hannl Mikro) or by the pre-owners (Okki Nokki, Loricraft or the like). After cleaning the records have been played just a few times (or only once by me for playgrading)

• I playgrade each record (completely or at least in parts) on my Rega Planar 9, high-end Moving Coil cartridge by EINSTEIN/ EMT TU-3 SFL (please consider that the playback might differ a bit depending on your own equipment)

• I also visually grade cleaned records in daylight, in normal artificial light & under a strong halogen lamp

• only an unplayed record is mint, my highest grading for a used record is mint- . My basic gradings are: mint – ex – vg

• cleaned records are stored in a new pro innersleeve and they are placed in a PVC protection-sleeve

• pl. note: even pro cleaned records may have received some dust particles during visual-/play-grading, photographing or few pre-owner playbacks
