GRADING FOR 45’s
Near Mint (M-)
Picture Sleeves: Minor imperfections due to handling may be present but no seam splits, cut-out holes, ring or shelf wear or egregious writing. The condition and presence of any inserts will be described. If no mention of lyric sheets, posters, pictures or inserts is made - assume either a generic or factory inner sleeve.
Vinyl: Vinyl and labels will appear rarely handled or played. There may be only the slightest indication of handling in the form of an inconsequential very light scuff or two or very light spindle marks. The surface of the record will have retained all of it’s original lustre. Looks and feels like an almost-new record.
Very Good Plus (VG+)
Picture Sleeves: Light, typical shelf, seam, corner wear may be present. Light discoloration and light foxing, lite dog-ears or creases may also be present. Anything more than a few of the minor defects listed above will lower the grade.
Vinyl: A record that has been obviously played and handled. Record surfaces may show some light signs of wear, may have slight scuffs or light surface scratches and/or lite groove wear that may occasionally compete with playback. Lables may show average signs of handling and play. A small sticker or two, some non-eggregious writing, a small drill hole. A combination of minor defects will lower the grade.
Very Good (VG)
Picture Sleeves: A sleeve may be marred by writing, creases, edge or seam wear or have tape or stickers (or their residue) attached. Checks, minor seam splits, creases may be present. A combination of more than a few of these defects will lower the grade.
Vinyl: Will show noticeable and a bit more than average signs of handling and play. Still a clean, solid listerner but surface noise that does not overpower the music will be evident. Groove wear may be noticeable, and light scratches may affect the sound. No skips. Labels may show a combination of writing, stickers, moderate spindle wear or other moderate defects.
Very Good Minus (VG-)
Pictures Sleeves: Will be worn, may have seam splits, tears, creases, sticker and/or writing.
Vinyl: Surface noise, scratches and noticeable groove wear will be present and compete with the music. Still no skips.
