It's hard to explain the impact of a cover up in a time when it could be, and often was, years rather than months before the identity of the artist was discovered and copies became available. With no internet, or apps such as Shazam it was almost impossible often to work out what a record was and then go about finding and buying one. That was the case with Colin Law's Willie G & The Magic Rhythm Band c/up, which turned out to be Troy Marrs. The record (this disc for sale) may now be just about worth what I paid for it 33 years ago, bought when Colin was still playing the disc, just. The instrumental B-side / version became a hit on the jazz-dance scene in Scotland and is a great interpretation.
It's a remarkable record, unique, infectious and hard to stay still when it's thundering bass intro hits you - on this Promo version of the gorgeous Sure Shot label it is now hard to find in this EX condition. If it follows the pattern of other big tunes finding a second wind, value can only go up...
