"DANCE ON THE BLACKTOP"
It caught the attention of Relapse records for the new direction in sound that was created and signed them to put out their debut LP "Guilty Of Everything". Their debut garnered universal acclaim for its effortless melding of shoe-gaze, punk, and ambient rock getting highly favorable reviews from every music outlet. They released their sophomore effort "Tired Of Tomorrow" two years later with Relapse records. Now they're getting ready for their third release "Dance On the Blacktop" with new bassist Aaron Heard from Jesus Piece.
Nothing, was formed in 2010 after lead singer Dominic Palermo was released from prison after a 2 year stint following a stabbing he was part of. Prior to that he was active in the local punk music scene, causing raucous everywhere he played. During his time spent behind bars he soul-searched and made amends with himself eventually coming back to music as a way of new found self expression. He strayed a bit from his punk roots and delved into shoe-gaze.He combined both genres using the ear piercing distortion of 90's shoe-gaze legends My Bloody Valentine and the hard hitting fast paced drumming typical of hard-core punk. After two years of honing down a sound and recruiting the rest of Nothing, the "Downward Years To Come" EP was released.
Much of "Dance on the Blacktop" draws on the life of founding member Domenic Palermo. In particular, Palermo was influenced by his time spent behind bars and the recent diagnosis of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, a neurodegenerative disease found in people with serious head injuries.
Throughout the LP, there are songs that tell stories of self-loathing and self-destruction, as well as paranoia and anxiety stemming from his new illness.
