Description
On offer is a 12” LP record titled NIGHT SHIFT – Night Trains In New South Wales issued by The Australian Railway Historical Society (ARHS 302/AWA) in 1962. The recordings date from the late 1950’s and early 1960’s. The record plays at 33 rpm.
The recordings are of steam locomotives used for a variety of purposes. There are notes on the back cover explaining each recording. There is also a chart detailing various classes of locomotives used. It is divided into sections showing – Class / Type / Number Built / Builders & Date / Couple Wheels / Boiler Pressure / Cylinders / Tractive Effort / Weight: Engine & Tender.
The recordings are titled : 5711 – MAIN SOUTHERN LINE / 5711 GALONG / 1957 HAZELGROVE / 3830 MORRISON’S HILL / C-38’s FROM THE TRAIN / 3631 and 6029 TUMULLA / 5460 NEAR BLAYNEY / 3654 and 3611 GRESHAM.
The record is in VG+ condition. There is a little noise in the run in groove and the odd pop or crackle. In non record collector terms it plays approx 6.5 to 7 out of 10. It is an enjoyable listen. There is wear on the cover. The spine has a large area of wear (it is not split) and there are spots of wear on the other edges. There is some paint or ink on the front edge. The cover also has ringwear (front and back) and some light soiling on the back. The information is clearly readable. A sound copy of a hard to find item.
