Nucleus were a pioneering jazz-rock band from Britain who continued in different forms from 1969 to 1989. In their first year they won first prize at the Montreux Jazz Festival, released the album Elastic Rock, and performed both at the Newport Jazz Festival and the Village Gate jazz club.
They were led by Ian Carr, who had been in the Rendell–Carr Quintet during the mid and late 1960s, and was a respected figure in British jazz for more than forty years. Their jazz-based music evolved from an early sound incorporating elements of progressive and psychedelic rock toward combination with a funkier sound in the mid and late 1970s.Gatefold Sleeve: EX. Extremely hard to find this sleeve without any issues. Usually the gimmix cutout has some damage. This one is still in splendid condition!! The matt sleeves of Vertigo are always very difficult to keep in optimum condition. Especially the darker sleeves like e.g. Black Sabbath's Vol.4 usually do not fare well with fading colours etc. This sleeve has done better than average with just a slight onset of ring. Some light storage wear on the edges but otherwise a great sleeve. The inside gate is NM and untouched. This will be a fantastic copy for most Vertigo collectors.
Inner sleeve: EX+. Stunning original swirl inner sleeve WITHOUT ANY SPLITS!! The PVC inner bag is still firmly attached. Light yellowing near the top.
Vinyl: EX. Both surfaces retain their original deep, glossy sheen. A SUPERB VINYL COPY WHICH WILL PROVE HARD TO BETTER!!! There are a couple of the usual sleeve retraction paper scuff traces. There are no marks. There are one or two very light,short and superficial hairlines but these have no audio consequence - the record sounds sensational
Outstanding audio delivery in all respects with a crystal clear, deep, rich, warm and detailed sound and on playback at a loud volume (which is how I always listen to my LPs prior to listing and it's always an immense pleasure to return to this one) there is barely any surface noise. This is a beautifully clean pressing (and I must emphasise again how difficult it is to find a copy which plays this well). The whole LP sounds absolutely stunning and plays to an extremely high standard with superb clarity, no groove-wear and no distortion and is very strictly graded a strong EX for audio - great copy!! Of course, NO skips, NO jumps, NO ticks.
