For auction is this magnificent Nucleus album with some astonishing prog jazz and following on in quality from its predecessors. This is a must have in its NM splendid barely played (unplayed?) condition.

Ian Carr was at the forefront of jazz music for over 40 years. He began in his home town of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, where he joined his brother Mike's modern jazz group, the EmCee Five which ran successfully from the late 1950s until the early 1960s. He then co-led the innovative modern British jazz group the Don Rendell/Ian Carr Quintet which released 5 albums on EMI Columbia's "Lansdowne Series" label. The Rendell-Carr Quintet is regarded by many as one of the most influential, important and original modern British jazz groups ever. After the break-up of the Rendell-Carr Quintet, which also featured pianist Michael Garrick, Ian Carr went on to form the iconoclastic jazz-rock group Nucleus, which represented the United Kingdom at the 1970 Montreux Jazz Festival and won the award for top group that year. They also played the Newport Jazz Festival in the USA on the strength of Montreux.

They released 12 albums either under the Nucleus or Ian Carr name between 1970 and 1980 and toured extensively worldwide. Carr wrote all the music for three of these albums ("Solar Plexus", "Labyrinth" and "Old Heartland" of which the first two received bursaries from the Arts Council of Great Britain) and he wrote 8 of the 9 tracks on "Out of the Long Dark". He also made significant contributions to the recordings of compositions by jazz composer Neil Ardley on the albums, "A Kaleidoscope of Rainbows" (with Nucleus), "Harmony of the Spheres" and "Zyklus" and to jazz composer and pianist Keith Tippett’s jazz orchestra Centipede on the album "Septober Energy". 

 Sleeve:  EX+.  Great laminated sleeve with hardly any wear. Perfectly flat without any wear, even the edges are perfect!! A fully 100% legible spine. No creases or writing whatsoever. The opening is super crisp the spine is 100% legible. Cannot be faulted at all apart from a wispy underlaminate spinal crease, blink and you'll miss it. An upgrade for most prog collectors.

Vinyl:  NM.  Both surfaces retain their original deep, glossy sheen. A SUPERB VINYL COPY WHICH WILL PROVE HARD TO BETTER!!! Indeed, it has barely been played or might possibly be totally unplayed!!! There are NO spindle traces at all!! There aren't even any hairlines or paper scuffs. An absolute upgrade for the serious collector when all that counts is CONDITION!! The whole LP sounds absolutely stunning and plays to an extremely high standard with superb clarity, no groove-wear and no distortion and is very strictly graded a strong NM for audio and visual appearance - great copy!!  I have played this on my very revealing setup with a Linn Sondek cartridge and thoroughly enjoyed it.  Of course, NO skips, NO jumps, NO ticks, hardly any static.

I have played this in FULL> The replay is ASTOUNDING!!! There are not any jumps, pops or skips.  Very remarkable for this 1975 vinyl!!! This copy has barely been played. The heavy vinyl with high groovewalls provide a fantastic audio experience with channelling not equalled by the later re-issue. I played this on my Technics turntable with a Linn cartridge and through my very revealing B&W three way speakers!!! A beautiful CLASSIC with supreme songcraft, a joy to listen to!!!!
