It was released in 1988 on the 'Priority/Ruthless Records' label (cat. no. SL 57102) and comes in a shrinkwrapped card picture sleeve with a plastic inner.
N.W.A. was an American hip hop group from Compton, California, active from 1987 to 1991. In that time they released two acclaimed studio albums; 'Straight Outta Compton' (1988) and 'Niggaz4life' (1991). They were among the earliest and most significant popularizers and controversial figures of the gangsta-rap subgenre, and are widely considered one of the greatest and most influential groups in the history of hip hop music.
The original lineup, formed in early 1987, consisted of Arabian Prince, Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, and Ice Cube. DJ Yella and MC Ren joined later that year. Despite enduring controversy throughout their career, mainly down to their explicit lyrics, the group has sold over 10 million units in the US alone. The magazine Rolling Stone ranked N.W.A. at #83 on their list of the '100 Greatest Artists of All Time', and in 2016, the group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
'Straight Outta Compton' is the debut album by N.W.A., released on 'Ruthless Records', a label co-owned by the band's Eazy-E. The album was produced by group members Dr. Dre, DJ Yella, and Arabian Prince, with lyrics written by Ice Cube and MC Ren along with 'Ruthless' rapper The D.O.C. With its famous opening salvo of three tracks, the group reflected the rising anger of the urban youth. The opening song, and title track, introduced the group, 'F**k Tha Police' protested police brutality and racial profiling, and 'Gangsta Gangsta' painted the worldview of the inner-city youth. The album peaked at #37 on the US Billboard '200' album chart and has gone on to certified triple-platinum, for sales of over 3 million.
The album is near-mint, and the vinyl appears to be unmarked and is Unplayed. The shrinkwrap has been slit, but remains intact. The sleeve is in very good condition, save for very minimal wear in a few places on the open edge.
