Description
This is a rare 12 inch record by the UK band Narnia. Released in 1974 on Word/Myrrh UK label.. I think it is self-titled although by the word "Narnia," it says "Aslan is not a tame lion." This is a great progressive - psych rock LP and actually I'm reluctant to sell it. That's why I have a high reserve. If the record interests you, feel free to email me.
I wish this record had been distributed and sold in the US but to my knowledge it never was. Where were those "WORD" executives back in 1974? Probably trying to tame Randy Matthews, but that's another story.. haha. I guess progressive Christian music never sparked much interest in the Christian music "industry."
This has female - lead vocals by Pauline Filby. She apparently wrote the words to the songs and they are wonderfully poetic and inspiring. I wonder what happened to her? Does anyone know?
Does anyone know if this LP was ever officially re-released on CD??
The other members of the band are:
John Russell - Lead Guitar/acoustic guitar/recorder/vocals
Tom Hatwell - Bass and acoustic guitar
Peter Banks - Keyboards/acoustic guitar
Kenneth "Ginger" Dixon - drums/percussion/vocals
Isnt this the Peter Banks who was also in AFTER THE FIRE? Boy, I wish he had made more music like NARNIA instead. Not that ATF was a bad band, but most of their music was not my "cup of tea" except for the rare "Signs of Change" LP.
The songs on Narnia are:
You'd Better Believe It
Muddy Ground
The Juggler
Agape ( a masterpiece of prog music! )
To A Fountain
Miracle of Birth
In The Forest - great song !
Boogie for Narnia ( this is great ! )
Living Water
The record is in very good condition. Plays clean but has a few pops here and there. Has some paper scuffs. The cover looks quite good, but shows it's age with some wear and dirt. Not bad for 30 years old ! Also, to my knowledge, European record covers were always "thin paper." I'd grade this as VG+/VG ( LP/cover ) I dont sell any records or CD's in bad condition. I scanned the central part of the record cover for the picture. Front cover art is really neat. The back cover has pictures of each band member plus the lyrics!
I like progressive rock, psychedelic rock, moody art-rock and blues rock. However I mostly collect "Christian" progressive and psych. It's very hard to find those ! Similar to the styles of Jeff Johnson, Arkangel, Kemper Crabb, Jimmy Hotz, Moody Blues, ELP, YES, Mike Johnson ( of the Exkursions band ), Kansas, Phil Keaggy, etc If you know any Christian bands who play ( or did play ) any of these styles, please email me.
