McKinney) Grace Baptist Church is a “singing church.” Music has long been an integral part of the church program. The Music Ministry, through the encouragement and support of its pastors and the church, has sought to develop the talents of boys and girls, men and women for Christ and meet spiritual and musical needs in lives of individuals, the church, and its organizations. Choirs also have participated in community services, state music festivals, sung on state convention programs, and on television. During the past two decades, through the devoted service of many individuals, thousands have been reached through the Church Music Ministry. Many have “grown up” in music at Grace and now assist in many areas of the church life. Others have gone out to serve in churches throughout the Southern Baptist Convention. Their witness to Christ through singing has enriched their own lives as they have sought to bring blessings to others. The Church Choir, in addition to regular services during 1968, presented a lovely cantata, “Glory to God” by J. T. Adams and three major choral works, “The Seven Last Words of Christ” by DuBois, “The Holy City” by Gaul, and “The Messiah” by Handel. The Church Choir of Grace Baptist Church, under the direction of J. Roy Bethune, sing some of the “Favorites Through the Years” of choir and congregation. Selections are varied, including hymns, spirituals, hymn arrangements, and anthems. J. Roy Bethune served Grace Baptist Church, 1940-45, as minister of music and education. He returned in 1951 to become minister of music, which position he held through 1968. During this time, he de- veloped a fully graded music program and also taught voice and direction. During his ministry he has sought to maintain high standards of sacred music that is Christ-centered. He is active in state and southwide music programs, a member of the Southern Baptist Church Music Conference and the Volunteer State Chorale. Mr. Bethune has also served churches in Memphis and Cookeville, Tennessee, and Pineville, Louisiana. Hiram A. LeMay, Pastor J.
