The Roland Rennie Collection

Coming up for the foreseeable future, is a record collection that is quite unique. It is the personal collection of the late great Mr. Roland Rennie who was the managing director at Polydor records in the UK during the 1960's and 1970's. There are some unique records, including 7 inch singles and LP's, along with Acetates, Demo's/Promo's and Factory sample records. Most are very early issues, if not the first to be produced. All of the main Polydor artists are present, including international and UK labels connected to Polydor.

In 1950, a young man named Roland Rennie joined EMI records in Hayes, Middlesex, UK. Roland quickly grew with the company and saw its success mushroom manyfold during the late 1950's and early 1960's.

During his 12 years at EMI, he held many positions and eventually became the right hand man to EMI managing director, L.G. Wood in 1959, and was closely involved with major affiliation switches by major American firms. He oversaw the changes from British Decca to EMI and of Liberty and United records. His experience would put him in the top 6 of most knowledgeable executives in the industry at that time.

In 1962, Roland was a member of the team reponsible for the conception of the 'Stateside' label, which became the outlet in the UK and many other countries for: Scepter, Vee Jay, Diamond, Swan, Laurie; and a dozen other U.S. ensigns.

In addition, under instruction from Sir George Martin, Roland was also the person responsible for The Beatles' entrance onto the American stage, and was directly involved in negotations for them to appear on the Ed Sullivan show for the first time.

In 1965, he left EMI to take up the position of managing director at Polydor records in the UK, and directly oversaw the signings to the label of: The Who, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, The Bee Gees, Sonny & Cher, Wilson Pickett, Ben E King, Otis Redding, The Drifters, Joe Tex, Patti and her Belles, Don Covay, Barbara Lewis and Soloman Burke, to name but a few.

On offer today, we have this Factory Sample first edition UK / USA LP of (Nathan) Milstein's Masterpieces for Violin and Orchestra with The Concert Arts Orchestra, conducted by Walter Susskind LP on the rainbow Capitol FDS label, the Full Dynamic Sound range.

This album was released in very few numbers in the Full Dynamic Sound range in mono, and is one of very few examples made. It has the FDS logos on both labels, trying to find another is near impossible.

It was issued in very limited numbers to members of the record company and is one of the rarest mono versions that you can find. It has the factory sample sticker on side 2's label and 1G 1G stampers in the run off-groove to authenticate that it is the very first pressing to be manufactured.

The catogue number is P 8528.

The vinyl is stunningly clean, near mint, with very little evidence of wear or play. Very clean and free of surface marks and free of hairlines. It plays beautifully throughout with only light backround noise in places. There are no sticks or jumps of any kind.

The Capitol FDS label is in stunning condition, no fading and perfect print. The label has the joint trademark text for the USA and Made in Gt. Britain text around the label which is different to the official UK Capitol release.
There are only 2 very light spider trails to note.

The vinyl is stunning with very little evidence of play or wear. The vinyl is wonderfully clean, smooth and without a noticeable mark or hairline. Equally to side 1, it plays through beautifully with only light background noise in places. There are no jumps or sticks of any kind. A wonderful listening experience.

The Capitol FDS label with a Factory Sample - Not For Sale sticker is very clean and free of any fading. The print is fantastic and there are no spider trails around the centre hole and no other wear to note.

The record has its original Emitex inner sleeve, it is excellent plus. It is without any seam splits, very clean and without any major creasing or discolouration. Beautiful.

The Garrod and Lofthouse Ltd. outer sleeve, with 'Patents Pending' in the bottom right corner of the rear, is in very good plus condition with a very small amount of surface wear throughout.

The front has slight surface wear but overall 8/10.
The spine is near perfect and all printed text is fully readable. The corners show light evidence of rubs but nothing serious.
The rear tri-fold panel is fully bound with some minor discolouration throughout.
