NEIL ARDLEY - 'A SYMPHONY OF AMARANTHS'
This ultra-rare, little known British jazz masterpiece dates from 1972 and features some of the UK's finest musicians of the jazz scene of the late-1960s and early 1970s such as: Ian Carr, Don Rendell, Mike Gibbs, Jon Hiseman and Barbara Thompson.
Side one contains four movements: Carillon, Nocturne, Entracte and Impromptu. A rich mix of strings, woodwinds, harp and tuned percussion. Sometimes loud and brassy, and light and delicate at other times, the music conjours up a truly English pastoral feel and includes sublime solos from Ian Carr.
Side two opens with Edward Lear's “The Dong with a Luminous Nose” narrated, his own lugubrious style, by Ivor Cutler. Followed by three exceptional pieces set to the words of Yeats, Joyce and Lewis Carroll and sung superbly by Norma Winstone, featuring masterful tenor work from Don Rendell.
This exceptional UK 1st pressing dates from initial release in 1972 on the red & silver EMI/Regal Zonophone label: SLRZ 1028

Both are clean & unworn with just one or two faint spindle trails around the side 2 centre hole but none on one.
Visual: MINT -
Factory-fresh, deep-gloss playing surfaces which are 'as new' in strong daylight. The only visual blemish is a light, 2cm fingernail scuff on side 1 which is neither feelable or audible. Closer examination beneath halogen light reveals nothing more than a sparkling rainbow shine.
Audio: MINT -
Played just a couple of times on high-end equipment, the sound quality throughout is 1st class. There is no trace of any groove/playwear, crackle, clicks, pops, ticks or any other distractions. You won't be disappointed.
Cover: EXCELLENT
Due to its matt finish, some light storagewear is inevitable. However, this is minimal on this example and the cover is overall clean & strong. Both seams and the fully worded spine are unstressed & unsplit and there is no writing or missing paper anywhere.
