Description

An original 1st press of ATGR on UK Reprise from 1970. Matrix A1/B1. It's worth noting that NY records from the early 70's will usually make reference to a 'Warner USA Recording'. The very earliest copies of ATGR either have this statement on one of the labels [transitional copy - like this one], or not at all. It is also clearly a 1970 copy given the matrix numbers and the fact it holds the original catalogue number for the release - and makes no reference to the new catalogue numbers sequence starting 'K' when Kinney reissued in 1972. The heavy set vinyl comes housed in an original gatefold cover with no reference to the later Kinney re-cataloguing and no reference to the reissue in 1972 [as all later copies do]. The de facto  proof of a 1st issue cover is the original catalogue number in the interior in the top-right corner of the right hand panel. Also included is an original generic white inner and the lyric sheet. The lyric sheet has been pulled from a 1972 reissue - it mentions the re-catalogued number in the corner 'K440088'. It is still genuine to the period and printed on decent paper weight.
Vinyl (Ex+) In superb condition and has clearly only seen very light use. Under close inspection we struggled to make out more than a couple of light marks - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an EXCELLENT+ level of playback. Never have a I heard 'Gold Rush' sound this good! It's an acoustic paired down effort from Young and anything other than a super-clean copy is going to leave you disappointed. Intros and inbetweens are silent and the audio comes across with perfect clarity. Clearly this is a very low-mileage copy and it really helps the audio shine through. The only place where we detected a few crackles was about a minute into 'Tell Me Why' and even this is minor and very brief. The remainder of the record plays back with no background at all - just very clean audio. Definitely a keeper!
Cover (Vg+) Difficult to find in top condition, but this example betters most that surface. Nice clean front with a touch of handling wear down at the foot. The rear is equally good, but I have just spotted a tape repair along the top-edge. It's difficult to make out and certainly not overtly obvious. The interior is pretty much immaculate. Then there's a bit of edge wear - most notable on the spine. Don't expect the text on the spine to be entirely legible. Overall the cover still retains excellent rigidity.
Inner (Vg+) Light ageing with no splits.
Lyric Sheet (Ex-) Very nice condition. No splits. A couple of small age spots either side. Nothing that noticeable.
