Description

This rare 45 rpm record features two songs recorded by star players of the 1979 New York Rangers.
Side A (labeled “Side East”) is “Hockey Sock Rock” by Phil Esposito & the Ranger Rockers (Phil Esposito/John Davidson/Ron Duguay/Pat Mickey).

There was a video made (https://youtu.be/z0UoRgYJTJs) and there are a lot of wacky things going on in it – Duguay’s amazing purple satin jacket, J.D. playing a sax solo on a ketchup dispenser, and backup vocals by the Unknown Comic. Of course, behind it all is the artful craftsmanship and lyrical mastery of Alan Thicke, bringing us classic lines like:

 • You’re my favorite chick, you’re my first draft pick
 • Come and be my dream, come and join my team
 • Sweet, sweet cookie, you’re my rah-rah-rookie
 • Can’t you see you’re my MVP
 • Come on and fill my soul, you’re my only goal
 • Rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, a puck-a puck-a…

Side B (labeled “Side West”) is “Please Forgive My Misconduct Last Night” by Dionne & the Puck-Tones (David Taylor/Charlie Simmer/|Marcel Dionne).
Platinum label #1217-75.
Platinum Records, ©1979

Hockey Sock Rock is a song written and produced by Alan Thicke, as a publicity tool for the New York Rangers and the NHL in 1979, as Rangers president Sonny Werblin worked to make the Rangers more hip in disco-era New York City. The proceeds of the recording went to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
