Description
NEWCASTLE BIG BAND Featuring Gordon Sumner (Sting) on Electric Bass for all tracks Newcastle Big Band was born in 1968 as a student band at the University, but only really toddled in October '69, when Andy Hudson, it's leader, met John Pearce, well known jazz veteran who knew all the players to fill in the gaps. The band reached puberty on the instrumental jazz circuit in 1970-72 (and probably lost its virginity at the same time). After our Continental successes we achieved even more popularity with our new maturity back home. We hope that this, our first record, doesn't die a death. Here's to the immortality of the Newcastle Big Band! Distributed by Impulse Organisation, 41 High Street West, Wallsend, NE28 7RJ Recorded at The Pau Jazz Festival in the Municipal Casino, France, which is a hall noted for its unique acoustic properties. Also recorded live in the (Newcastle) University Theatre after a large curry luncheon. Special Issue on a white label, Reportedly only 2000 of these were produced. Catalogue number IS-NBB-106. This one has been written on by someone in the band, but I don't know who - If anyone can recognise the style of the writing, then please let me know !! I can provide details of where this was obtained from and where it has been for the last 30 years, and can tell you who Mr Kysh and Mr Cook are....... Side one has "For Ian Cook" written in ink on the label. Other writings reads: 1. We've got a great little scene up here, Humour, Jazz, Rock and beer 2. Although the sound is not-all bad. A 40 sec spot is all we've had 3. When will we find that elusive creature, Mr Kysh and his 1/2 hour feature 4. "M.U. Fees!", the universal cry, alternatives to be found, if only you try. 5. Our band and its crowd make good T.V, so "Extractum digitum".. or its B.B.C 6. This disc is apresent to nice Mr Cook "Is this BRIBERY?" - is it the devil (Excuse that rhyme, but you're not Mike Neville) ANON. Love to Ian from NEWCASTLE BIG BAND
