I can remember as a boy, I would walk along the countryside near Brother Bob's home. Long before his house would come into view, I could hear the sound of sing- ing and praising God, voices echoing from those mountains of North Carolina. I didn't know then, but soon I was to become a part of "The Skyland Singers," and that this event would reroute the direction of my footsteps and change the values of my life. I was there when God called Brother Bob and Sister Lucille to the ministry. Even now, as I think back my heart leaps for joy as I recall the events of those wonderful years "on the road with The Skyland Singers." I see the hundreds of precious people that came to God through this crusade for lost souls. God is the same yesterday, today and forever! His spirit never changes! He has been with us through the years, He is with us today! Jesus said "The spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord." St. Luke 4 - 18 & 19. I am happy to report that The Skyland Singers are still "on the field" singing for Jesus. Rev. Robert Lee Oakes is the pastor of our home church in Newland, North Carolina, Revivals for Jesus Tabernacle. Brother Bob and Sister Lucille's son, Bobby, his wife Rita, my wife Sharon and myself are the second generation of The Skyland Singers. Bobby and Rita's son, Reggie is the beginning of the third generation. As time goes on Shane, Penny, Shannon and Benji will become a part of this work for God as I did sixteen years ago.
