NICK DRAKE'S PINK MOON

TRANSITIONAL PRESSING VINYL LP

ILPS 9184 A-1U

THIS RARE PIECE OF SUBTEXT MUSICAL HISTORY OCCURRED DURING THE FIRST PRESSING OF DRAKE'S PINK MOON ALBUM. ISLAND RECORDS HAD REDESIGNED THEIR LABEL FROM THE ORIGINAL 'PINK RIM' TO THE 'DOUBLE PALM' TO BE USED ON ALL SUBSEQUENT PRESSINGS ACROSS THE BOARD.  PINK MOON HOWEVER, WAS CURRENTLY BEING RUN OFF THE PRESSES AND WHETHER TO DELIBERATELY CREATE WHAT WOULD BECOME THIS RARITY, OR OUT OF SOBER NECESSITY, ISLAND FINISHED THE LAST 200 OR SO FIRST PRESSINGS WITH WHAT SHOULD HAVE RIGHTLY BEEN THE LABEL OF THE  SECOND PRESSING WHILST KEEPING THE RUNOFF CODE (A CODE STAMPED ON THE BLANK VINYL NEAR THE LABEL) THE SAME . VOILA! A TRANSITIONAL PRESSING WAS CREATED, A PRESSING OF A RECORD WITH ELEMENTS OF BOTH THE FIRST AND THE SECOND PRESSINGS YET NOT BEING FULLY EITHER.

THOUGH AROUND 200 WERE MADE (WHICH IS STILL A VERY SMALL NUMBER FOR RECORD PRESSINGS) REMEMBER THAT THIS RECORD WAS PRESSED 40 YEARS AGO IN 1975 AND CURRENT ESTIMATES OF FUNCTIONING, LISTENABLE VINYL NOW PUT THE NUMBERS IN THE LOW TENS. THOUGH THESE ARE BY NO MEANS OFFICIAL FIGURES IT IS EASY TO IMAGINE 150 RECORDS BECOMING UNPLAYABLE IN CARELESS OR UNINFORMED HANDS.

THIS IS A CHANCE FOR YOU TO NOT JUST POSESS,  BUT ALSO PRESERVE A PIECE OF MUSICAL HERITAGE FOR YOURSELF AND FOR THOSE TO COME.

CONDITION

Down to business;

The gatefold sleeve receives a grading of VG. It has some ringwear on the back. The corners have some very light wear (worst of wich is shown in photos) as doeas the spine which is in tact save for a small split (7mm) at the top. I believe for its age that this record has been used with respect and well cared for. It now resides in a plastic sleeve away from sunlight on its own private section of the shelf, don't worry though, his other record buddies are only inches away.
The inside of the sleeve looks good, it does not appear to have been used as a coaster or place matt and all writing (printed lyrics and credits) and negative of Drake are clearly visible.

The record itself is in yet better condition than the sleeve and receives a grade of VG++. It cannot be considered NM, this is why; Light surface marks are visible when held under a light. The centre lable under light will also reveal some very light spindle marks. Bare in mind that you will only see these things if you are looking for them. But most importantly, the sound. I have play tested this record and it plays beautifully, a proffessional clean would no doubt make it sound flawless.

All in all this is a very well looked after record and we are lucky to still have the remaining few available.

BON CHANCE!
