Make “Friends” with Nina Simone on this compilation album released in mono in 1959 on Bethlehem Records; BCP-604. The full title is “Nina Simone and Her Friends: An Intimate Variety of Vocal Charm.” Featuring various artists.

 

A High Fidelity Recording, boasting “Micro Cosmic Sound”.

 

This album showcases a variety of singers all signed to Bethlehem at the time, including Nina Simone, Chris Connor and Carmen McRae. This is the mono version, featuring red deep groove Bethlehem label and “33 1/3 Long Playing Microgroove”.

 

It features four tracks by each, including Nina Simone’s breakthrough hit, “I Loves You, Porgy”. Along with three previously unreleased tracks from the “Little Girl Blue” sessions : “He’s Got The Whole World In His Hands”,  “For All We Know” and an instrumental jazzy piano piece entitled “African Mailman” performed by Nina Simone. The other singers more than hold their own.

 

Condition

Album: VG+/VG; has some scuffs and light marks; Spindle marks on label. Some intermittent noise during play.

 

Sleeve: VG/G; Some wear noticeable on spine. Corners have been repaired.

 

Inlay: Original inlay has been replaced with a new white paper one.
